Love is more than a feeling, it is a verb, a choice that you make everyday multiple times a day. The infamous love scripture in the Bible says…

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

Now let’s replace the word love with your name. 

• Liz is patient- am I patient even when I ask for help and the person isn’t helping fast enough for my liking?
• Love is kind- am I kind even when I’m frustrated or hurt
• Do I envy or am I genuinely happy for the person that has what I want?
• Do I boast or am I proud 
• Do I honor others or do I talk about them behind their back?
• Am I self-seeking or do I come along side my love one and work together to better each other?
• Am I easily angered or do I stop, breathe and try to understand?
• Do I keep a record of wrongs or do I bring the past into the present every time there’s an argument?
• Do I delight in evil, or revenge or do I rejoice with the truth of my Heavenly Father?
• Do I always protect, always trust, always hope, and always persevere?

 When you truly love it’s not about you and your feelings or emotions. Feelings and emotions change with the wind. When you get into an argument or a disagreement, you have a choice to make. Is winning the argument or proving your point more important than the person you are arguing with? Falling in love is a wonderful feeling, it’s the staying in love, the choosing each other, honoring and respecting each other even when you are mad or apart.

When family members tick you off do you go and talk to someone else about “what’s wrong with them?” When someone you love hurts you do you voice your hurt and complain behind their back to someone who isn’t even envolved?

Love is honoring, respecting, forgiving, communicating, giving of yourself for the better of the people you love. My prayer is that I act in love no matter the situation, that my emotions don’t dictate my actions. That I can let go and let God in every relationship He has placed in my life.
