I’m pretty sure you’ve realized that just about everything in this world is out of your control. Your family, Your significant other, Your kids, Your health, Your finances, Your job, Your future, Your plans, Traffic
The only thing God has told us to control is ourselves. Self control…ME, MYSELF AND I! My actions and reactions, my attitude, the things I say, the things I watch, read, and post, how I treat myself and those around me. The Lord knows our deepest desires in this life but so does satan and if your heart and mind are not grounded in the word of God and yielded to the Spirit, you are setting yourself up to lose your peace, joy and what little control you do have.
Romans 8:6 NIV[6] The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Let’s say you are really wanting a big juicy steak, so you go to the one restaurant you know has the best. You tell your server exactly what you want and how you want it. Then you wait while your order is being prepared for you. Finally somebody brings you your plate with the most appetizing looking steak you’ve ever seen and a big ol loaded baked potato on the side. You are so ready to drive right in, mouth watering, it looks so good. You cut into your steak to see red, not pink but RED. Now, if you didn’t have any knowledge stored away in your brain about how your steak should look, you might just consume whatever you were handed. Not realizing that it could make you sick.1 John 2:16 NIV[16] For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
Lust: While commonly associated with intense sexual desire, lust is defined more broadly as an intense longing, craving, or passionate desire for something, which can include power, money, food, or fame. It is characterized by an obsessive, self-gratifying need that often disregards consequences.
As sons and daughters of God we must be careful that we don’t let our desires, our hearts, dictate what we consume. What we allow our minds and emotions to run to and how we respond, our actions. Your actions speak much louder than words not only to others but to your spirit, your heart, your mind, your whole body. Take your self-control back and stop letting satan deceive you with what looks so good, feels so good but is actually dangerous and damaging to your insides.
Father I repent for letting my desires, my flesh control my mind, my heart and my actions. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. I thank you Lord for Your mercy, grace, love and strength that pick me up and dust me off every time I fall. You are the lifter of my head and I praise You for the things You are doing in and through me. In Jesus name I pray amen
